A properly installed vapor barrier blocks ground moisture from reaching your crawl space or basement floor, sealed at every seam and pier.
A vapor barrier installed without properly sealed seams or wrapped piers provides a fraction of the protection it's supposed to, even though it looks complete at a glance. We follow manufacturer overlap and taping specs on every job.
We follow manufacturer overlap and seam-sealing specifications on every install, not shortcuts that look fine until moisture finds the gaps.
Standard-size crawl spaces and basements can frequently be completed in a single visit.
Pricing is based on your space's actual square footage and liner thickness selected, quoted in writing before installation.
We recommend liner thickness based on foot traffic, storage use, and moisture severity, not just selling the thickest option by default.
We scope every Vapor Barrier Installation job in person before quoting it, since two properties with the same symptom rarely need the same fix.
We overlap seams per manufacturer spec and seal them with rated tape, not just tucked edges that separate over time.
This is often done in coordination with a flooring contractor's timeline, and we can work around scheduled installation dates.
We use pier boots designed specifically for this purpose rather than improvised wrapping that fails within a year or two.
Existing vapor barriers with failed or separated seams can often be repaired rather than fully replaced, extending the life of a system that's otherwise sound.
Old, torn, or undersized ground cover gets removed and replaced with properly rated liner sized to fully cover the space, piers included.
Tell us the square footage, whether it's a crawl space or basement, and how the space is used so we can recommend the right thickness.
We also check for standing water or excessive debris that would need addressing before liner installation.
We explain why a given thickness fits your space's usage rather than defaulting to the most expensive liner.
Most standard-size installations are completed in a single visit, sealed and ready the same day.
"Old liner in our crawl space was torn and barely covering half the ground. New install with properly sealed seams made an immediate difference in the musty smell."
— La Follette Homeowner
"Recommended a thicker liner since we use the crawl space for storage — made sense once they explained it."
— La Follette Customer
"Seam tape on our old barrier had failed everywhere. They repaired what could be saved instead of pushing a full replacement we didn't need."
— La Follette Homeowner
"Appreciated the walkthrough at the end showing us exactly where the seams were sealed."
— La Follette Customer
Most residential spaces do well with 12-15 mil; heavier foot traffic or storage use often calls for 20 mil for durability.
Often yes — if the liner itself is largely intact and only seams have failed, seam repair can extend its life without a full redo.
We use rated pier boots rather than improvised wrapping.
We can scope either depending on your budget and how severe the existing moisture issue is.
Larger or more complex spaces with extensive pier wrapping may take a bit longer, which we'll flag in the estimate.
We can discuss combining it with dehumidification if the smell doesn't fully resolve.
