A properly installed vapor barrier blocks ground moisture from reaching your crawl space or basement floor, sealed at every seam and pier.
Mount Vernon, IL crawl spaces and basements see different levels of ground moisture depending on soil type and grading, which is part of why we size liner thickness to the specific space instead of defaulting to the same product every time.
Seam tape and pier wrapping are done to the standard that keeps warranties valid.
Vapor barrier installation is typically a quicker job than full encapsulation, and we can often schedule Mount Vernon, IL appointments within a few days.
Pricing is based on your space's actual square footage and liner thickness selected, quoted in writing before installation.
Under-speccing thickness for a heavily used space is one of the most common installation mistakes we see and correct.
Every Mount Vernon, IL Vapor Barrier Installation job starts with an inspection, not a generic package — here's what that typically includes.
We overlap seams per manufacturer spec and seal them with rated tape, not just tucked edges that separate over time.
For unfinished basements, a vapor barrier under future flooring prevents ground moisture from reaching finished materials installed later.
We use pier boots designed specifically for this purpose rather than improvised wrapping that fails within a year or two.
Existing vapor barriers with failed or separated seams can often be repaired rather than fully replaced, extending the life of a system that's otherwise sound.
We dispose of old material and debris as part of the job, leaving the space ready for the new barrier.
This helps us bring the correct liner and sealing materials on the first visit.
A technician measures the space, checks existing ground cover condition if any, and counts piers or posts that will need wrapping.
You'll see the recommended mil thickness, total square footage, and pier wrapping scope broken out with pricing.
We walk the finished installation with you to confirm seams are properly sealed before calling the job complete.

Often yes — if the liner itself is largely intact and only seams have failed, seam repair can extend its life without a full redo.
We use rated pier boots rather than improvised wrapping.
No — a vapor barrier is the ground liner itself, while full encapsulation typically adds vent sealing and dehumidification on top of it.
Larger or more complex spaces with extensive pier wrapping may take a bit longer, which we'll flag in the estimate.
We can discuss combining it with dehumidification if the smell doesn't fully resolve.
